With the shocking news of Greg Oden most likely missing all of this upcoming season, does that change your decision on who you would take if you had the top pick?
Oden will still be in the game, but this could possibly set back his progression in the game ratings as far as potential and ability to stay healthy.
It was somewhat of a close call prior to this injury, but would you still pick Greg Oden over a healthy Kevin Durant?

I voted for Durant since he seems like the safe bet. Prior to the injury, I think I would have picked Oden, but that surgery has destroyed many careers (with Amare as one of, if not, the only player to overcome it). Also, even though it doesn't mean much, Oden had a horrible summer league, and I think Durant had a pretty decent outing (even though in the only game I saw, he got shut down by Balkman).

Holy Crap! I just saw on RealGM! Man that sucks!
I'd definitely take Durant over Oden now. Microfracture surgery, wasn't that what Amare Stoudemire had and he was one of the few to fully recover?
I wonder how this'll affect our D5 draft. Oden will still play our regular season but how much of a liability does this make him?

I leaned towards Oden before this, now I'd be taking Durant no question.
Jason Kidd and Zach Randolph have had pretty successful careers since their microfractures, and Kenyon Martin was showing signs in his first season back from his first one. I also think it is a procedure that younger patients recover from faster and more fully. I think we'll still see a dominant big man in Oden.
An interesting question for keeper leagues, where do you draft Oden now?

It'll be hard for me to go against oden cuz he's still a dominant center. When Amare was lost to the surgery, i pretty sure that the kept him above 90 the entire time, so i don't think they'll drop oden's rating unless he comes back and plays horrible. So thinking that way, he'll probably stay at his original rating (which i heard was a 75?) for at least the next two years.
But you never know, as a texan i might go with our boy durant......

In the long run, this may help the Blazers though, they will miss out on letting their core gel, but they could end up with another high lottery pick.I feel bad for Portland fan's their franchise player might never be the same again. He needs to take it slow With this type of surgery you are not suppose to rehab fast or take it fast, you are suppose to wait as long as you can so the bone can heal up and get stronger. Microfracture at such a young age, look what happened to Amare. After coming back he lost a step in his explosiveness and will never be the same type of player he was before the surgery IMHO.

I would have drafted Oden. I know this is a big injury to get but no one knew it was going to happen at draft day. And I think Amare is playing pretty good after coming back from his surgery. One thing you have to remember is that doctors are getting better at doing procedures like this all the time, so recuperation time might not be as long now.

I actually planned to draft Oden with my last pick for my fantasy team. Someone needs to take him in at least one league.
