The only speculation that could be seen after all of the trades the Nets GM made this offseason is that their team had no depth. After sending away players like Bostjan Nochbar and Josh Boone to upgrade their starting lineup, the organization here was left with only 7 players on the roster. Those 7 included the starting lineup of Kidd, Allen, Wallace, Okur, Chandler, and two big men on the bench, Krstic and May.
The Nets have scored big this offseason though, especially in the free agency field. Despite being over the salary cap, the Nets have been able to sign 3 free agents to minimum salary contracts. Those free agents were Gary Payton, previously part of the Nets rival Miami Heat; Juan Carlos Navarro, who will be playing his first season in the NBA this year, but has had a lot of experience overseas; and Eddie Jones, the sharpshooting wingman previously on the T-Wolves.
The 6'11 Herbert Hill was also selected by the Nets in the 2nd round of the draft. Hill played at Providence and averaged 19.9 points and 9.8 rpg while playing for the Friars.
With these signings, the Nets further their depth and hopefully will bring a title to us in New Jersey! Keep your eyes open for a big season from the Nets.
