There is truth to the notion that Kobe Bryant may once again be on the move. A team official for the Golden State Warriors denied reports that Kobe has requested to be traded and also downplayed the idea that Bryant will be moved this offseason. Its hard to believe his story as it has already been confirmed that the Chicago Bulls have put together a "significant" package for Bryant, according to the Chicago Tribune. The recently acquired Chris Paul is the centerpiece of the offer for the disgruntled superstar. Along with the phenom point guard, the Bulls are offering Paul Millsap and Tyson Chandler, which will leave them with the hall of fame duo of Kobe and Garnett, along with Devin Harris running the show.
My sources indicate that the San Antonio Spurs are looking to overhaul the roster once again and have almost completed two separate deals this past week. The first trade would have sent Samuel Dalembert to the New Jersey Nets in exchange for Mehmet Okur. The apparent dealbreaker was a 2009 1st round draft pick, which the Spurs were not willing to part with. The other trade is still up in the air, and the main components are Manu Ginobili and Joe Johnson of the Atlanta Hawks. Atlanta is demanding that an Andre Miller and Jamaal Tinsley swap be included in this deal, as well as Shane Battier. Over the past few days, San Antonio has tried to rekindle these negotiations with the Hawks and is very likely to toss Battier into the package as the talks progress.
The Memphis Grizzlies are expected to move both of their first round picks prior to next weeks NBA draft. After unsuccessful trade inquiries regarding Allen Iverson and Ray Allen, the Grizzlies may have found a taker for their 5th and 19th picks. Seattle's Ben Gordon is very likely on the move in a deal that may be finalized as a draft day trade. This goes hand in hand with the report of the Sonics holding a secret workout last week with Florida star Joakim Noah. Seattle is believed to have given Noah a promise at the 5th pick, if they are able to acquire it. During a mid-season poll, Noah went unselected in the top 13 picks of a league-sponsored mock draft, but it now appears that he is a lock for the top 10.
The intimidating frontline of Shaquille O'Neal and Amare Stoudemire will be broken up this offseason. The Phoenix Suns are desperatley looking to shake up their roster after a disappointing loss in the NBA Finals. Common sense would indicate that the aging, declining Shaq would be the odd man out, however, it appears as though Amare will be the one wearing a new jersey next year. Phoenix, after numerous trade offers, has realized that Shaq's value has reached an all-time low and is unlikely to return enough talent in a trade to make their team better. While the Utah Jazz have been denied Amare after offering various packages involving one of Josh Howard and Ray Allen, the Atlanta Hawks appear to be the frontrunners. Along with Joe Johnson, the Hawks are going to have to include Al Jefferson, and they are set to do just that if Phoenix is willing to send some draft picks back in return.
