D5 Playoff News
When the playoffs are over we may look back upon the Game 3 results as being pivotal in their direction.
San Antonio vs Minnesota
Did anyone except the Brazillian maestro at the head of the TWolves predict that Minnesota would give the Spurs this much of a battle? Minnesota took a shock game one win and silenced the home crowd in San Antonio like a slap in the face! Game two saw the Spurs regain some composure with a win, but game three has confirmed that this series is not like any other 1st vs 8th seed series we've seen in recent times! In the third quarter Minnesota surged ahead, outscoring the Spurs 30 to 16 and it took a momentous fourth by San Antonio to push the game into overtime. The two then fought it out through the overtime stretch and eventually the 1st seed clinched it under immense pressure, winning by only two points!
Spurs fans are confused but Minnesota and neutral fans alike are going crazy for the Timberwolves!
Denver vs LA Clippers
A 3-0 series lead looks comfortable for Denver, but only the second game of this series has been an easy win and the Clippers aren't going down without a fight. After some wild elbows were thrown by Clippers center Chris Kaman, Nuggets point guard Allen Iverson will be out for the next 2 weeks of action due to a broken nose! This doesn't look good considering he was the main reason why Denver even qualified for the playoffs after Carmelo Anthony's season long injury!
Can the Nuggets win that one last game without Iverson in the team? Or will the Clippers seize this opportunity to crush the suddenly exposed Nuggets? I can't wait for Game 4!
Houston vs Dallas
At one point in the season this game would look like a forgone conclusion, Houston win. But the Mavericks have battled back in Timberwolves style fashion this year and this series looks like a close one to call!
Phoenix vs Utah
We all know Utah's lineup has what it takes to win this series, but we also know that Phoenix has one of the most formidable teams in the league. Yet another first game surprise came when Utah won an absolute blowout in Phoenix, but the Suns countered with a blowout of their own and have just won on the road in Salt Lake City. Whoever wins this series though, you have to feel they've got what it takes to make it to the Finals.
Detroit vs Atlanta
Game 3's thrilling overtime win in Atlanta will give the fans some hope against the mighty Pistons and maybe it will cast some light on the least watched of all the playoff series being played.
Miami vs New Jersey
Before the playoffs, New Jersey's GM was quoted as saying that they hoped to face Miami in the first round! Those are words that the Nets wish had never been said as the basketball Gods have smiled kindly on the Heat and bestowed a 3-0 lead for Miami! With a team like New Jersey's though you'd expect Jason Kidd to be fired up and ready to bring it back to New Jersey, but I suppose time will tell.
Chicago vs Cleveland
If you thought this series was becoming a forgone conclusion, Bulls win, think again! The Cavs just brought it home and won the third game and the Bulls main-man, Kevin Garnett, just went out with an injury for the next two weeks! Painfully bad timing for the Bulls who, like the Nuggets, are now without the man who is the main reason they're in the playoffs! Can the Cavaliers seize this opportunity to achieve venegence over their division rivals?
Toronto vs Orlando
We've all seen the Raptors do well in the regular season, but this kind of pumelling of Orlando was totally unexpected! The Magic must regain some composure before they continue in this fashion and the delayed mid-season trade that will bring in Randy Foye and Stephen Jackson may help to stop the bleeding! Game 4 is where it will all be decided!
