The Nets officially signed the papers today with both the Minnesota Timberwolves and Indiana Pacers in a deal that will send out Nets Raymond Felton and Antione Wright for Pacers power forward Mehmet Okur. The fan base in NJ was extremely excited to hear this news, after many speculated that the organization would not be able to get a deadline deal done.
Our reporters went on the streets of East Rutherford today to ask fans about the trade. One man in a Nets' hat commented, "I think this deal was pretty even as far as talent wise, and a lot of people really think NJ needs big men. As far as I am concerned, Krstic and Haslem were doing their job. Each was averaging between 10-15 points a game, but this trade gives us more depth I suppose. I'm not sure how Lawrence Frank wants to work Okur into the lineup, but as seeing that Udonis got injured last night, I'm pretty sure that Okur is going to log some big minutes pretty quickly."
The GM also commented, "Our team is playing great basketball right now. All of our players are finally building chemistry and producing. It is almost the same situation as when we sent out Carter, it will probably hurt our team for the nxt 10 games or so, but as long as we stay in the playoff hunt, look for the Nets to be a very dangerous team. It should be right around playoff time that we start building this chemistry up again."
The coach has announced today also that Mehmet Okur is expected to take Nenad Krstic's spot in the starting rotation as soon as Haslem is healthy again, but he also added that it was not finalized until he sees how both play with Haslem, or if they play extremely well with one another."
