Contrary to my earlier speculation, Jason Kidd is indeed available and has already been shopped around. Straight from the horse's mouth, the Nets' GM cleared things up by saying that "Kidd would be being sent to a team that a lot of people consider him a nice fit... but for different players originally considered in the deal." He would not reveal the teams that he has talked to regarding Kidd, but according to that quote, it appears as though a deal may already be done.
During my exclusive interview with the Nets' GM, he also made it clear that Raymond Felton could also be on the way out before this week's trade deadline. "We want to package him with another bench player or draft pick, and acquire someone that can come in and start for us", he explained. Unfortunately, he once again chose not to dive into further details regarding potential trading partners. On a sidenote, the Atlanta Hawks have reportedly held preliminary trade discussions with New Jersey, with the key components being Al Jefferson and Raymond Felton. Atlanta is believed to be demanding multiple draft picks in return as well.
After hearing about a potential trade that would send him back to California, Mike Bibby mentioned that "it would be the best news I've heard in awhile...I can't wait to play with Kobe". It should be interesting to hear what Bibby has to say now, as the proposed trade with Golden State is apparently dead in the water. Minnesota is expected to shop Bibby heavily the next few days, and the Cleveland Cavaliers will be one of the most likely destinations. The Wolves are apparently not worried about the salary cap, which makes a deal involving Larry Hughes very possible.
As exciting as the All-Star Weekend was on the court, the conversations going on in the stands were worth the price of admission alone. The hottest rumor going around had Charlotte sending Vince Carter to the Miami Heat in exchange for a package of players including Andres Nocioni and Lamarcus Aldridge. According to my sources, the Heat GM is trying to pawn off Vladimir Radmanovic and his long-term deal, as he wants to clear enough cap space this summer to be able to resign Carter. As it currently stands, the Heat may encounter problems trying to resign Nocioni, which is why his name has surfaced in just about every Miami trade scenario.
Well, Stephon Marbury will survive the trade deadline as he will be sidelined for at least the next month with an injury. With possibly their most appealing asset off the market, the Knicks' GM maintained that his team would remain active up until the final minutes of the trading period. Matt Barnes has been linked to San Antonio and Paul Milsap could be headed to Chicago as their frontcourt has been decimated with injuries as of late. They have also been aggressively pursuing Marvin Williams, but that deal seems to be dead as Marbury was the key component in prior discussions.
Kenyon Martin may seem almost untradeable with his contract, but the Nuggets have allegedly made contact with the Indiana Pacers and may be prepared to acquire another long-term deal in return. Troy Murphy is believed to be the center of trade talks, but the Pacers want at least a first round pick along with K-Mart as they are very concerned with his health. Outside of the Pacers, the Nuggets have also been looking to package Jason Terry and J.R. Smith for an upgrade at the shooting guard position.
