Following on from a discussion between me and Dallas:
As GM of the Boston Celtics I would never make a trade for Kobe Bryant, because it would just seem wrong to have Kobe playing in a Celtics jersey.
The same would be true of Shaquille O'Neal.
And the same would be true of Tim Duncan. Celtics fans always feel a bitterness about losing-out on drafting Tim Duncan 1st overall when the Spurs tanked their asses off despite being a successful team that year, when David Robinson was out injured. So it'd feel wrong to have Duncan too.
Anyone else share the same feelings? I don't think this reasoning only applies if you're GMing the team you support...

I guess since I'm GMing a team I don't root for I don't have any players I wouldn't trade for. I mean I don't like Kobe but if New Jersey would for some reason offer a trade involving him in which I didn't have to give up my whole team for (which most likely won't happen) I would go for it but I wouldn't want to see him in a Bulls jersey.

I am a follower of the "Dallas School of Thought" when it comes to this issue. As not only the GM of the Knicks but also a die-hard fan, I would have no problem trading for any guy that I think would make my team better, regardless of their history with the Knicks. For example, I wouldn't think twice about signing Reggie Miller if he decided to come out of retirement, despite being a well-known Knick killer.

When I was the manager of the Pistons in one league I made a trade for Ron Artest not even a year after the brawl. I needed a SF and his defense I thought would really help me out. I won the championship that year

Yeah even as someone who isn't a Raptors fan I though that was pretty cheap.

Well let's see...
I was born n raised in Indiana and I wouldn't trade my largest cap hit or a slew of 2nd rounders for his sorry ass. Same goes for punkass Kobe.

yeah Kobe seems to be the most hated player....I wouldnt mind having him cuz he is one of the best, but as a Suns fan I hate him too (everyone hates) so I wouldnt OFFER for him, I would only get him if the GM who has him offers me a fair deal involving Kobe...

I personally love to watch Kobe Bryant. It just wouldn't be in the character of the Boston Celtics organisation to have him in a green jersey. That's what I'm saying here. It's got nothing to do with personal preference, it's about a team's identity.
