Boston apparently sent a PM to people that said team options dont count towards cap
HUH!?!?!?!?!?!
That is really not fair to the teams that worked hard to get cap room this offseason... i feel as though this is just a completely absurd rule
For instance, lets say someone had a 20 mil team option. That means they can sign anyone they want this offseason, and still have that 20 mil player, whereas a team that worked hard to get under the cap would lose the player
If a team DOESN'T pick up a team option, then it doesn't count towards cap.
If a team DOES pick up a team option, then it doesn't count towards cap.
Doesn't make any sense.. any thoughts?

I agree completely, thats a dumb rule, like you said you can just keep that option until the deadline and throw the 20 mill at free agents and then pick up the option

If a team DOES pick up a team option, then it doesn't count towards cap. Doesn't make any sense.. any thoughts? EXACTLY, perfect EXAMPLE IS ATL, he is benefitting from this rule. he literally signed EVERYONE, and now could pick up his TO. when half of his deals should be void. which is Horry, Vujacic, and Lowe, he is just under the cap at 64.7 mil with signing Calderon AND extending Jefferson's contract. AND THAT'S with all the TEAM OPTIONS picked up (THAT HE DID JULY 10TH AND BEFORE.) with this TO not counting againist CAP, he is now able to sign Horry, Vujacic, and Lowe, and now he can also sign DJ Augustin now by getting rid of Butler and Daniels for Walker and still HAVE a 15 MAN team without getting PENALIZED. THE ONLY RULE that should be allowed IS NEXT YEAR's one which is you can wait as long as you want and sign all the FA you want AND THEN you can use YOUR bird rights (if you held them 3 years in this league) to go over the cap.

You guys are right, we've already recognized this was a 'broken' rule that needed fixing. The problem was that some GMs had planned their teams around this rule existing so I didn't want to change it just at the last minute and screw them over.
Next season, all Team Options will count against your team's salary cap until you decline them.

Alright, all we have to do is re-sign all our players, and then pick the TOs that will be the same thing
