Factors in Free Agency & Re-Signing
Once the rookie draft is finished we will set a date and countdown to when the Off Season Free Agency & Re-Signing period begins. These two periods will both go hand-in-hand: opposing GMs can now try to steal your players before you re-sign them! Priority to sign a player will always be with the player's current team, but if you take too long to start making offers to your players another GM will get there before you!

Factors
- Age
- Young players (<25) are more likely to sign with up-and-coming teams.
- Mid-20s players (23-27), at the end of their rookie contracts, are more likely to sign with up-and-coming teams who have already shown some promise to succeed.
- Older players (26/27+) are more likely to sign with teams that are already successful, or teams which would probably be successful with their presence.
- Veterans are either likely to sign for very little with successful teams, or a large amount with any other team.
- Young players (<25) are more likely to sign with up-and-coming teams.
- Success
- A successful team will always be more likely to sign a player than an unsuccessful one.
- Position
- A starting-calibre player is not likely to sign with a team where he will be benched.
- Money
- Of course, more money offered to a player will generally increase the chance of signing him. But please keep your offers to a realistic level! For instance, last season Chris Webber was signed for 3 years for $33m by Portland. We are going to try and limit these kind of mistakes from now on.
- Player Attitude
- Every now and again, despite a player's situation being otherwise content, they will flat-out choose not to sign. We (the staff) will try our best to identify which player/s might do this each Off Season and this will happen to one or two unfortunate teams.
- Loyalty
- In the rare instances where a player has stayed with their team for longer than usual, a loyalty bonus will affect the amount a team needs to offer. On the other hand a player may be loyal to a specific place other than their original team (e.g. A player to his hometown), if this factor is mentioned by a GM to the Player Agent, it will be taken into consideration.
- Timing
- A team will have a better chance of signing a player if they make the offer earlier rather than later.
- GM Experience
- A team with a GM who has shown competence and experience is more likely to be favored. D5's Executive of the Year Award is a useful prize!
