I was thinking the other day and thought of 4 new rules that the NBA should enact. Do you like?
1) Un-weighting the lottery:
If all 14 teams had the same amount of chance to get the number one overall, tanking would be reduced significantly, if not entirely. No tanking=higher NBA attendence too in those cities.
On the other hand, this balances out the youth in the NBA and reduces the chance of a single team loading up with rookies over a couple of years and then dominating for the next ten (For example: the Portland Trailblazers). By spreading out the youth, players will progressively hit their primes and balance out the talent in the league.
2) Players entering court during altercation:
Players should be able to enter the court during an altercation as long as they don't shove, hit, or talk/yell to the other team that could lead to an escalation of tensions. As we saw with Amare, getting up to defend your teammates is an impulse and an involuntary action a lot of times and players shouldn't be penalized for that. But for doing anything else, including shoving or smack-talking should automatically recieve a minimum 10-game suspension.
3) Playoff Re-Seeding:
Re-seed after every round of the playoffs to reward teams with better records. Also, if a lower seed (such as the Warriors) knocks off a higher seed in a previous round, then they should have a chance to beat a higher seed in the next (like the Phoenix Suns). Thus, we aren't punishing lower seeds for beating higher seeds and the playoffs will progressively get more interesting instead of the cliff it falls off of whenever only one of Phoenix, Dallas, and San Antonio is left.
4) NBA Players Union can suspend refs:
The NBA players union should be able to suspend NBA referees with a 75% majority. NBA players are the ones most affected by the performance of the refs, so why not give them more power? Secondly, if the refs knew that the players held their fate, don't you think their calls would start to be a bit more consistant and correct?
