Wow, talk about overpaid. 27 million in year 6?!?!
IMO opinion, Rashard is worth between 10 and 12 million per year. Orlando is probably going to regret this in a couple years when his contract is immovable.

This is now a top 5, for worst contracts ever. He is now the second highest paid player in the league behind Kevin Garnett.

yeah he's overpaid, but i can see why orlando did this. Although he will eventually (or immediatley) get to the point where he is overpaid, he, dwight howard, and the great young orlando cast can win right away. While lewis is going to be a burden later on, i think his addition is enough for orlando to make a run at the conference finals, and in orlando's eyes a conference finals may be worth such an extravagant contract.
I'm not saying i would do it, but if orlando didn't overpay for rashard, somebody else would have, and the magic won't always have as much cap space as they do now.
I thought they should have saved the majority of their cap space for next years amazing FA class though.

I can't believe he is getting paid more then Kobe, Shaq, T-Mac, Lebron, Wade, Duncan, KG because Lewis is getting 27 mil, Dirk, Marion, Nash, and I can go on and on, this is just stupid for ORL perspective. hey BOS, atleast it wasan't Danny Ainge, or else you would probably have a heart attack right now. I am happy that it wasan't Kupcakes and LAL if they could get him in any way, shape, or form or else I would take an AK-47 and blow his head off.

I'd probably renounce Boston and support the Blazers (at the start of the season I forced myself to choose between the Celtics and Blazers. Don't know that I made the right choice!).
The Lakers overpaid for Derek Fisher just yesterday though, but that's nothing... absolutely nothing compared to what Orlando has done with Rashard. It should be looked at closely by the league because it's really wrong.

It should be looked at closely by the league because it's really wrong. Lakers didn't really overpay for Fisher, he could be a mentor to all the young PG (Crittenton and Farmer) and it makes Farmer expendable in a trade with Bynum for KG or JO. Also Fisher already knows the Triangle Offense, so that should be a huge plus, I don't consider it overpaying unless he was signed for 5 years instead of 3, but Fisher is highly underrated you don't know how valuable he was to the Lakers, just ask Spurs fans how they felt about Fisher with the historic 0.4 shot. Well I gotta go now, but I want to say one last thing about Fisher he is the guy that can save a locker room, and he and Kobe are friends since they were drafted together in 96, so he could keep Kobe in check for a while. So I like the Fisher signing, even if he is old, I rather pay him then an overrated player like Steve Francis who wrecks more franchieses then Kobe and Shaq ever did combined.

Good points Dallas.
Now onto this years trend... overpaying.
It all was started by my Raptors giving Jason Kapono the full MLE. That must have made Rashard's agent go "Oh look how much Kapono is getting. And Rashard is better then him!"
Otis Smith was then dumb enough to believe that, so he signed Rashard to the SECOND HIGHEST CONTRACT in the bloody league.
But hey, Detroit signed Chauncey Billups to a reasonable contract, as did the Bobcats with Gerald Wallace.

Not better. Grant was a top 5 player in Detroit. Rashard is a second tier player at best.

Disgustingly overpaid

Lewis obviously got a terrible contract.
But i don't think Orlando made the wrong call.
What i am trying to say is that they are always screwed (T-Mac, Shaq, etc..) and by making this move they secured to be competitive for the next couple of years. (Howard also re-signed)
Sure, they could have obtained Lewis for less money but i think he wouldn't have accepted to a 6 years deal with the Magic if he wasn't overpaid.
If Orlando is willing to be over the cap then i believe this will be a good for them.
Moreover, it is true they lost Darko because of this move but he hasn't done much in the league so far and probably, he will never be more than an average player. I still think they could have received something in return through.

Orlando should have...
Resigned Darko to a deal similar to what he got from Memphis. Signed Gerald Wallace to a 5 year deal worth 55 million. (more then what he got from Charlotte)
Darko, Wallace>>Lewis

I don't think Wallace wanted to leave Charlotte. And i am pretty sure the Bobcats would have offered a bit more of money if they needed to.
The Magic got a chance to sign an all-star and they took it. Next year with Howard's extension they will probably be over the cap and they wont have the cap space to sign someone better.

True. If I was Wallace I'd stay in Charlotte too. They are building a solid team.
