With the trade deadline fast approaching, the rumor mill is finally starting to heat up again.
My sources in Charlotte are indicating that the Paul Pierce and Vince Carter honeymoon is over. This experiment gone wrong has forced the Bobcats' GM to send out feelers around the league. Expect Carter to be the likely trade victim as Charlotte simply cannot allow the former Tar Heel to walk away in the upcoming free agency. With that said, the winning streak is over in Los Angeles, and the Clippers have held preliminary talks regarding an Elton Brand for Vince Carter swap. If Charlotte can not get Brand, they may be enticed to take on the contracts of Cuttino Mobely and Chris Kaman as well as a draft pick as compensation. Apparently, the Clippers will stop at nothing to win the title this year.
Ray Allen recently purchased a home in Central Florida. It is already believed that the Utah Jazz are open to moving just about anybody on there roster, outside of Deron Williams, in an effort to win a title this year. Couple that with the fact that the Miami Heat are always making noise on the trade front, and there is reason to believe that the sharpshooter could land on South Beach.
Chicago Bulls' GM was recently quoted as saying that "KG", he continues, "on the way to NY". Later asked about the quote, he explained that it was simply a misunderstanding. "Some jack*** took that out of context!", he explained. ESPN's Marc Stein originally published the quote in his blog. According to his blog today regarding Kevin Garnett to New York, Stein writes, "Where there's smoke, there's fire.".
Starting small forward Shane Battier is reportedly being pursued by the Orlando Magic, who currently have Hedo Turkoglu in their starting five. It is unlikely, however, that the Raptors would be willing to part with Battier without bringing back Trevor Ariza and possibly Hakeem Warrick. A third team may need to be included to make a deal work by taking the contract of Turkoglu.
Andre Miller is as good as gone by next month's trading deadline, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. He has reportedly expressed his frustration with Sixers' management, and it appears as though the feeling is mutual. Those close to the situation insist that the franchise is attempting to get his rising salary off the books in exchange for a cheap young point guard along with expiring contracts.
