Why are committee members with teams and players deciding what their and everyone's players should be rated? No matter what, we have to assume that someone is going to have some kind of bias against a player or a team and that will be reflected in the ratings changes. So the most logical answer would be to use a non-bias outside source to choose our ratings such as NBA Live Series Center(NLSC). Now this will be the best option for the league so GMs (NJN) won't bitch all the damn time on the forums, and would have no one to complain to except for NLSC and they can deal with him. This is the Miami Heat GM.

Having people who watch basketball determine how good basketball players are.... hmm.... seems kinda stupid to me

Dude that picture is scary as hell but on the subject I think we should have a mix because some of the NLCS ratings are way off (example AK-47 should not be a 90) I think we should use them as a base to start from and instead of just posting a thread of our arguments for players being raised we should make it a poll and get EVERYONE to vote on it

I've got just the same voice as anybody else, that's why I started the Stock Watch Discussion.
Before then, player rating changes were just done by the staff and that was that.

I just want to state that I think it's pretty pathetic that all this questioning of the committee is coming up after a GM is complaining about his SELF ADMITTED FAVORITE player got a minor ratings decrees.

Yea but you are the only one whose opinion matters how would you feel if your players were being decreased by someone who was generalizing players based on age, and that person would not even consider any of your opinions?

How'd you guys get pictures of each other? And as for who decides the ratings, I think it'd be best to have a non-bias source be the one that makes them. Whether it be NLSC or something else.

Regardless of who decides the ratings someone is always going to be upset one way or the other. As far as this league goes there is no committee anymore that decides rating increases/decreases. The only ratings threads on this board are the ones that we can all see and post in.

Well, the picture DET used is on my front office page. And NJ, my assistant, DET, and myself are all friends outside this league. Although none of us even live in the same state right now lol. We could have the other 25 GM's come up with the ratings and then, we the committee, take the averages and have final say.
IDK just an idea, with the amount of crying we have had here recently.

And a big HELL NO! to using NLSC rosters. Those are a complete joke and most of you would not be satisfied with them. I can guarantee that.

I like the idea of discussion within our league. There's enough of us to have fair rating changes here.

OK so I was bored today and I made a spreadsheet of every player in the league (unless they were recently added to this site). Now this listing is taken from NBA.com 08-09 stats. It's also ONLY based off of the ppg for every player. No rebounds, no assists, nothing else...I went thru and added each players current rating as it is on this site and as it is per the team rosters. It kind of goes along with this discussion of players ratings...have a look and check to see where players are ranked in comparison to there real life ppg and the rating they currently have. Now I realize that ppg is not the sole factor in ratings changes. www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=df5bb07d041d7850b94117dade8fc295e04e75f6e8ebb871Let me know if the link doesn't work, I can email the spreadsheet if need be. I will be adding the rebounds, steals, assists and blocks later...

I like the idea of discussion within our league. There's enough of us to have fair rating changes here. I agree 100%. I would prefer that any decisions made on player ratings for this league be based off of the opinions and suggestions of the GMs in this league. I believe initially that is what Boston had in mind with the Stock Watch threads, to involve everyone in the process.

I found these Player Rankings on CBS sports after looking at what Milwaukee started putting together. Keep in mind these rankings are based solely on stats. They factor in Games Played, Minutes Played, Points - Rebounds - Assists Per Game, FG% and FT%. They for some reason don't factor in Blocks or Steals though. I thought these were interesting, here's the link... www.cbssports.com/nba/playerrankings/regularseason/OVERALLYou can base the player rankings off of position or you can look at them overall.

If we are solely going to use stats, you are better off using the PER stat. That best identifies a player based on stats alone.
Clearly, ratings are not only about stats, but they do play a huge part.

I just thought these were interesting and they came from a non bias perspective.

I don't understand why people say they want "outside" opinions...lol...do you really feel like the committee makes rating changes to benefit their teams and destroy others? Really? Think about that...
Someone is making those ratings on any other website. They are basing the ratings off of their personal opinions. Granted, they aren't in THIS league; however, they are taking their personal opinions and applying them to the game. Are they not biased in a sense?
We have 30+ basketball knowledgeable people here who all watch, study, and analyze the sport.
Ultimately not everyone will agree on exact rating changes, but the majority of people can agree on a range that is fitting.
Perhaps what we could do is each time a player is suggested to go up or down have poll on that thread with choices being: +5+, +5, +4, +3, +2, +1, 0, -1, etc. And vote for the increase or decrease; this way we can get an idea of how the the majority of the league feels a players rating should change, and the committee can take that into account.
I guarantee you if we use an outside source people will not be happy lol. GUARANTEE IT.
