Race to the MVP
This year's Race to the MVP is the closest I can ever remember, with multiple candidates all vying for top position!
1. Kobe Bryant - Utah Jazz
24.5ppg, 4.1rpg, 5.4apg
Kobe is leading one of the deepest teams in the league to the second best record so far in the Western Conference. So far the league MVP has been award to Tim Duncan (2006/07), Kobe (2007/08) and then Tim Duncan again (2009/10)! Could it be that the pattern repeats itself yet again this year? with Kobe winning the MVP whilst playing for the team he helped defeat in the 2008 Finals?
2. Tim Duncan - San Antonio Spurs
19.8ppg, 10.1rpg, 2.8apg
Timmy is once again the leader of the hottest team in the league and defending champion San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs GM, an original league member with now 4 seasons experience, has kept the Spurs core largely intact and it has to be said that San Antonio present themselves, yet again, as favourites for the Championship this season alongside Atlanta.
3. Dwyane Wade - New York Knicks
24.1ppg, 4.3rpg, 5.1apg
Wade and the Knicks surprised everyone in last season's playoffs, beating the 3rd seed Bulls in the first round and then the 2nd seed Celtics in the semis! High expectations followed New York into the regular season then and the Knicks have not disappointed! Currently third in the East and on top of the very competitive Atlantic Division, Wade and Yao have established themselves as an elite legit threat in the East to almost any team.
4. Lebron James - Chicago Bulls
29.6ppg, 9.8rpg, 6.4apg
Lebron is once again posting an epic season for the ages, but such is the immense trade value of the real-life MVP, teams who trade for Lebron never seem to be able to put a decent supporting cast around him. As a result he falls short in what would otherwise be a cake walk to the top of the MVP standings in a season in which he has broken the league scoring record twice (53 and 58 point games).
5. Dirk Nowitzki - Atlanta Hawks
16.0ppg, 7.2rpg, 2.5apg
The only reason Dirk is so low is due to his long injury that kept him out of the Hawks lineup and, as such, has clearly affected his performance so far. Since healing though Dirk has once again become the centerpiece of the Hawks who, at the moment, present themselves as the only worthy challenger to the Spurs dominance of the regular season.
