[glow=red,2,300]Terry Porter Fired; Memphis Owner Livid[/glow] After a disappointing start to the season, Memphis Grizzlies general manager and co-owner Ryan Hall has fired coach Terry Porter and the entire coaching staff. Furthermore, he has vowed that there will be serious personnel changes this season. "This season is over for for us. The west is just too hard of a conference for us to be able to make it back into playoff contention, but we still aren't necessarily giving up. I don't think Terry was the right fit for us and this team, at least not in the head coaching capacity," Hall said at a press conference today. As for a new coaching staff, Hall and his co-owner Jerry Jones have hired former Dallas Mavericks coach Avery Johnson. Johnson brings a youthful presence to the team and hopes to continue the success he had when he took the Mavericks to the NBA Finals. Avery's coaching staff will be filled out during the upcoming week. In regards to the changes Hall alluded to earlier, he responded by saying that the team's goal this year is to "go through a quick rebuild." "We plan to trade any players under contract next year with the exception of Brandon Bass, get a good draft pick (or picks), and sign several quality free agents. We will not be looking for projects, only prospects who can contirbute immediately. We still have a chance this year afterall." That being said, the Grizzlies seem to be preparing to go into hibernation for now, which only solidifies more as a sleeper pick this year and next.
