When new 76ers GM Charles Boen took this team over, he didn't like what he saw. "Baron Davis is old and going to expire, and he was pretty much the franchise." said Boen "Yi wasn't performing right, and I knew I had to make some moves for the future." Boen has only made 2 trades since taking the 76er job, the 1st sending Yi, Adam Morrison, and Ike Diogu to the Bucks for Andres Nocioni and Charlie "CV31" Villanueva. "I really love CV31 and thought he could help out now and down the road much better than Yi. I felt like I got a bargain for Nocioni, getting him for Morrison and Diogu....2 players that were not in the plan." The second trade sent Raja Bell and Steven Hunter to the Jazz for Eric Snow and Eddie House, an obvious cap move.
Boen has tried to get players via Free Agency, but has ran into problems with league officials. "Every time I made an offer, they wouldn't let me make it." Earlier today Boen finally got his 2 guys in Von Wafer and Marquis Daniels, two players he really likes. "Usually the easiest way to develop a young team is to run, and these 2 guys will help do that. Marquis can play 3 positions and is very underrated, while Von next year will be a huge help as a scoring 6th man type guy."
76ers are currently 5-10, and have played well as of late. They are only a 1 win and 3 loses away from being the 8th seed, but Boen doesn't think this team has what it takes. "I doubt we are going to make the playoffs, I'm shocked at how well they are playing, but I would trade Redd or Noci the first good deal that comes along. We are a rebuilding team it's just going to take some time to get the pieces in the right place since I missed the off season. Most teams have their teams set for the playoffs, but come deadline time I will make some moves that help us in the future." Though I'm sure if the 76ers keep pace, Boen might make a move to win now.
